Exhibition - Film - Web - Discussion - Media Lab - Participation

RISK brings together artists who endeavour to make creative political change through their practice, working across art and activism, using a range of strategies and technologies.

The project aims to support public discourse about the political and social contribution of art practice and creative thinking to imagine and realise how we want things to be. The artworks embrace complexity and chaos rather than quick fix answers or political solutions.

The RISK exhibition will present social actions and processes, political statements and questions, films, participatory computer based works, research material, alternative trade systems, live performance, media lab, discussion forums, art objects and more!

Artists

Over 34 Artists and collectives are taking part in the project including: Aisling O'Beirn, The Atlas Group, Doug Aubrey, Ross Birrell, Jota Castro, Ruth Catlow, Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army, Jem Cohen, Critical Art Ensemble, Andrea Crociani, Jeremy Deller, Ghazel, Gregory Green, Jordan & Hewitt, Gavin Hill, ICOLS, Martin Krenn, Torsten Lauschmann, Maris, Harold Offeh, Josh On, Platform, Topsy Qur'et, Jai Redman & Damian Mahoney with UHC, Oliver Ressler & David Thorne, Kate Rich, Jackie Salloum, Trans:it, Yes Men, Variant.

RISK celebrates the ways in which artists investigate the values of social inclusion - not as a political diversionary tactic but as a radical art practice. The government definition of the role of arts in social inclusion rarely engages with the real politics of power. RISK goes beyond the social into the realms of direct action, protest and political change; the project is committed to clarity in the presentation of art and ideas and opening opportunities for people to participate.

"RISK explores ways in which artists intervene in political culture and the public realm, taking action to provoke and inspire critical cultural and political change"

    Curator, Ele Carpenter

Ghazel will present her complete series of WANTED posters as part of her ongoing Marriage of Convenience project making farcical immigration laws transparent. The project carried out over several years and countries, invites men to marry the artist in order for her to gain residential status in their country. Alternately, once Ghazel has achieved a permit to stay, she offers her own legal security in marriage.
