Rethinking Wargames is a 3 player chess net art game developed by Ruth Catlow. In a reworking of the rules of chess, the pawns
join forces to defend world peace and chess players are invited to find strategies that challenge existing power structures
and their war machineries. 3 Player Chess can be played online, or on conventional chess boards. This competitive game is open to
all skill levels, including players with only a basic understanding of conventional chess. You are invited to play on-line at

Ruth Catlow and Simon Yuill presented their respective computer games Rethinking Wargames and Spring Alpha.
Glasgow-based artist Simon Yuill works with software and code systems and is interested in the formal aesthetics of
Gaming and its wider social and ideological manifestation. Spring_alpha is a simulation game
based on the urban revolt in Chad McCail's Spring and Evolution is Not Over Yet drawings.

NOT ON THE LABEL: GMO Debate
Saturday 2nd April, 2-4pm, CCA:3, Free
Scientists Dr Arpad Pusztai & Dr Susan Bardocz along with Carey Coombs, Policy Manager, Soil Association discussed genetic modication in food
and issues of freedom in scientific research in relation to global corporate funding. The debate explored questions such as:
What are the conspiracy and counter-conspiracy theories surrounding genetic modification and its scientific testing?
How can we re-think issues of local and global trade?
The discussion took place infront of a display of Free Range Grain Banners by Critical Art Ensemble. In Buffalo, USA May 2004 the FBI confiscated Critical Art Ensemble's Free Range Grain test for genetic modification in grain.
In Scotland, scientist Arpad Pusztai was suspended in 1998 and later fired after discovering negative results in his research into the effects of GM foods on rats.
