Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army, (UK)The Clandestine Insurgent Clown Army (CIRCA) presented the War Room installation at the heart of the RISK Exhibition. The installation marked the begining of the CIRCA UK tour, recruiting new clowns for the Demonstrations during the G8 Summit at Gleneagles, Scotland, July 2005.
War Room
The clown's War Room was styled on a World War 2 operations room complete with maps, toy soldiers and lots of pink fluffy arrows! Visitors entered the room by ducking under a military camoflage net woven with red roses. Once inside there were a range of activities: transforming toy soldiers into clowns; pining acts of resistance to the world map; planning actions for the G8; and watching the CIRCA training and operations video.
Operation T.A.K.E
Operation T.A.K.E. facilitated people to transform their war toys of aggression and conflict into rebel clown accessories, articles of fun, objects of parody and humor. After transforming toys, participants transformed themselves to join up with the jesters and tricksters of the Clown Army. In the days leading up to the RISK opening CIRCA clownbattants infiltrated transformed war toys into local toy shops including press releases about Operation T.A.K.E.
The T.A.K.E. Practical workshops for kids (and sensible adults) transformed hundreds of plastic toy soldiers into clown army soldiers. Children also transformed their own war toys into jolly clowns, giving action men pink hair and golden gowns!
The Taster REBEL CLOWN workshop on Sat 26th March introduced adults to the art of clowning.CIRCA issued a Communique at the launch of the War Room: To be inserted here......
